Black and Classy is Bershka’s Evening 2015 Collection

‘Keeping it black and classy’ seems to be one of this holiday season’s most featured themes, and Bershka also decided to give its fans a tres chic evening 2015 collection that could be absolutely perfect for the upcoming Christmas events. Filled with sequins and sheer fabrics, the Bershka Christmas 2015 line-up features its own versions of theseason’s hottest trends, which also include mannish cuts, plunging necklines and skinny scarves. In comparison with the MangoZara and Free People holidaycollections, Bershka’s line-up explores Sixties geometrical designs and Seventies boho chic cuts and patterns, such as long bell sleeves, retro skirts matched with chunky sandals and ankle boots.

The collection also features interesting pieces of jewelry, available both in gold and silver, which include some studded and dangling geometric earrings, open bracelets and statement rings with clear lines that make the line-up look even more sophisticated and festive. It is also interesting to notice that Bershka only gave its models just a piece (or maximum 2) of jewelry to wear for this advertisement campaign, basically stating that the forthcoming Christmas and New Year’s Eve parties will be blessed under the sign of ‘less is more’. Moreover, most of the earrings and open bracelets are perfectly in tune with the collection’s tops and blouses, the strategic cut-outs and geometric necklines of which unconventionally enhance the silhouettes.

High-waist trousers and A-line mini dresses give the collection an appealing dynamicity, the purpose of which is to make everyone feel comfortable in their own skin. For this holiday season Bershka’s clothing line explores also feminine and richly saturated shades, creating both conventionally ultra-feminine clothes and more mannish pieces. Those delicate skinny scarves are definitely one of the collection’s most stylish must-haves, being super versatile pieces to be paired either with the flirty mini dresses in order to create an intriguing contrast, or with the masculine suits.

As for the fabrics, Bershka follows the latest faux fur trend, keeping it luxury and eco-friendly. The Spanish label charms us with the dark red fur coat that’s a perfect piece to wear both with jeans on a daily basis and with elegant little black dresses on special occasions. If you like to play with contrasts, you could combine it with one of the collection’s sequined mini dresses. For a sultrier look, you could also pair the mock-neck long-sleeved tops with the high-waist skinny pants, which will also make your figure look even more slender and balanced.

On the other hand, if you would rather keep it simple and stylish, check out the collection’s oversized t-shirts: their asymmetrical cuts and round necks could glamorously emphasize any minimalist look, making you the star of the party.

High street label H&M’s latest collaboration is a pretty unusual one. The much loved clothingcompany has joined hands with Paris’s Musée des Arts Décoratifs to create their latest Conscious Collection that is inspired by the archives of the museum. French art director and model Julia Restoin Roitfeld will be the face of the campaign for this collection.

H&M’s design team explored the museum’s archival fashions and the work of artists like Gustave Moreau to create a collection that is glamorous and modern while maintaining some artistic flair for the red carpet. Expect interesting prints, delicate fabrics and intricate details.

“I am honored to be the ambassador of such a unique project. I think that the idea of creating a collection inspired by the history of art and fashion is fantastic, especially since it is made with innovative and sustainable materials which are the future of fashion,” says Julia who fits the aesthetic of the collection thanks to her effortless, modern style.

The Silk Dress

I’ve been receiving requests for some dressier maternity outfits (for casual ones, you can refer to this post – I’m pretty much in one of these dresses on most days). Luckily for my comfort, I haven’t had too many very formal reasons to dress up, though friends keep egging me on to be more social (I suspect at least partially motivated by my designated driver status). I’ve had some dinner events in the past month though, so snapped some pictures to share with you all.

Dress 6 months

Yes, I still wear heels…I always grip the handrail though and really only wear teetering ones like these when it’s a strict “car seat straight to dinner seat” type of situation. Otherwise, I’m always in flat sandals or moderate wedge espadrilles.

The bag is my black sellier Kelly – I’ve been meaning to share it on the blog because I wanted to do a comparison between retourne and sellier styles, but have fallen behind. I’ll try to do a review soon. But in the meantime, I’ll say that Grace Kelly had it right – it does a great job of hiding a baby bump!

Silk Dress

The heels are Nicholas Kirkwood (closest versions are this pearl pair and these Hexagon pumps, both really cool). The dress I’m wearing is actually one that I had made for me awhile back, after searching fruitlessly for the perfect silk resort dress and not finding one that wasn’t monstrously priced. Silk + beach weather + salt water + sand doesn’t always mix well, so I don’t like to pack pricey clothes on resort holidays. I love the cut and embroidery and was really happy with how it turned out. I’ve packed it in the past as a nicer outfit to wear while on beach holidays, but the light silk and looser cut has made it perfect for spring evenings as well…and it’s forgiving even with my six month baby belly.

Actually I’ve realized that this dress has been so accommodating, that I’m creating it in a different color and a slightly smaller cut for after pregnancy, to give me something to look forward to. A few readers have given the same advice, to pick up a few items to have as a treat for after giving birth. Hoorah!

After the official ad campaign, and the mens lookbook which you’ve already seen, here’s the third post that many have been waiting for. Yes, here are the official looks from the H&M + Balmain #BALMAINATION just for the ladies and I’ve included their prices in SGD as best I can. And while the mens collection has both statement and everyday pieces, the womens collection is decidedly all statement, and I’ll be honest, I have trouble seeing our local lasses decked out in this collaboration collection and walking down Orchard Road on any given day.

These pieces, will, however come in handy with the slew of year-end parties coming up, also applicable for your company’s D&D or maybe some clubbing night-out with the girls.

Something to note though, some pieces in this collection are more limited than the rest, because of the amount of craftsmanship (beading, embroidery, you name it, they’ve got it) that goes into it. From what I’ve heard, these pieces may be limited to just 1 piece per size in Singapore, and while also more expensive than the norm, they are in a sense true collector’s items as well. For those pieces I’ll include an * after the description, and if I missed out on anything, or if you have any more questions, please leave a comment below and I’ll get back to you ASAP.
